Type of immunization : 


 There are two types of immunization-


I) passive immunization - it can be achieved through placenta during intrauterine life and after birth through colostrum ( milk ) . It is possible when the mother is immunized against the specific disease and this immunity last for upto 12 weeks of their age. 


ii) active immunization can be achieved through vaccination . 


Importance of vaccination : 

Vaccines are prepared from a virus after passing through a various cultures where the virus lost it's disease producing ability but it's antigenic property will be intact . So when a vaccine is injected into the body due to its antigenic property body's immune system produce antibody against this virus but no pathogenic changes occur in the body . Types of vaccine : 


It is of two types 


I) core vaccine.            ii) non core vaccine. 


Core vaccines are - canine parvovirus, Canine distemper, hepatitis, Rabies, leptospirosis .


Non core vaccines are- Bordetella, Canine corona . 


Points to be remember before vaccination : 


1. Vaccine should always be given to a healthy dog . 

2. Deworming should be done 7 days prior to the schedule vaccination date. 

3. Vaccination should be done at the cooler part of the day ( morning or evening ) .

4. Potent vaccine from reliable sources must be used. 

5. We have to strictly maintain cold chain ( refrigeration ) . 

6. Dose and route of administration should strictly be followed . 

7. Immune suppression drugs like corticosteroid etc should not be use prior to and following vaccination . 

When should we start puppy vaccination : 

Frist vaccination of a puppy should be done at the age of 42 days or between 6 to 7 weeks, after that according to the schedule it should follow . Frist vaccination should be done with Nobivac Puppy DP vaccine . A single dose should be given via subcutaneous route .

1. At the age of 6 weeks first vaccination by Nobivac @ puppy DP should be done.

2. At the age of 60 days combination of Nobivac @ DHPPI and Nobivac @ lepto should be given. 1 dose via S/C route.  This vaccine should be repeated after 21 days and then annually .

3. At the age of 12 weeks Nobivac @ Rabies is given . Dose should be 1 ml via S/C route. This vaccine should be repeated after 3 months and then annually .

4. Nobivac@ KC should be given at the age of 6 - 9 weeks . Dose should be 1 dose via intra nasal route. This vaccine is repeated annually.

5. Nobivac @ corona is given at the age of 6-9 weeks , then booster should be given after 21 days . Single dose should be given via subcutaneous route each time .

Precautions : 


1. Before vaccination restraint the animal properly.
